Marshall's owner, Jane Ammeson, is a writer and photographer who has lived in Marshall for over 20 years. She adopted Marshall when he was a puppy, and they have been best friends ever since. Jane loves Marshall very much, and she knows that he is a one-of-a-kind dog.


In 2016, Jane was diagnosed with cancer. She was given a terminal diagnosis, and she was told that she had only a few months to live. Jane was devastated by the news, but she was determined to make the most of the time she had left.


One of the things that Jane wanted to do was to write a book about Marshall. She wanted to share his story with the world, and she wanted to show everyone how special he is. Jane started writing the book in the fall of 2016, and she finished it in the spring of 2017.
